  His breath caught, and his arms held her even more tightly than before. His lips claimed hers in a scorching kiss.

  “Esmeralda Garcia,” he said with a chuckle, “I can honestly say that I thought you would never ask.”

  He took her hand and led her back toward town. Somehow, knowing that she could introduce the love of her life to his daughter, that she could keep him forever, as part of her family, the cold winter day seemed just a bit warmer than it had before.
