  “Please,” she begged. “I need you.” She reached out a desperate hand to tug the briefs away. He helped, ripping the fabric away from him. Her eyes widened, taking him in. He was gorgeous, all of him. In a second, he was hovering over her once more, his golden eyes flashing and looking for reassurance in her face.

  “I need you,” she told him.

  He plunged inside of her in one swift movement, earning a cry of pleasurable pain as he stretched her. It’d been a while since she’d made love and Lucius was good, very good. He rocked against her, creating a pleasurable rhythm that had them both throwing their heads about. Finally, when she could take no more, she dug her nails unconsciously into his back, raking her nails down the skin. He cried out and shuddered as they both reached their highest place together. She moaned, feeling utterly ravished, as they fell back onto the bed.

  In the stillness of the night, she laid against his bare chest, his strong arm wrapped around her. She listened to the rise and fall of his chest, the breathing that tickled her ear.

  This, she thought, was paradise.

  She placed one last kiss on his lips as they drifted off, naked and happy, and tangled with each other in bed.

  Epilogue: Lucius

  Things hadn’t worked out as Lucius planned. Or perhaps they worked out just as he planned, or at least the beast inside him had planned. He watched with a bit of pride as Thomas took a wobbly step towards Cassandra, who was waiting with open arms and a huge grin in the living room. There were more family days now.

  Annie always smiled more. She was happy to have won the bet that she and Richard had on how long until Lucius and Cassandra would get together. In the end, Annie won the pot.

  Lucius smiled to himself as he came to join Cassandra, coaxing Thomas to stumble towards them. It was hard and breathless, watching such a tiny thing take his first steps even after all these months of caring for him. Cassandra had been an excellent mother. There were none better, Lucius decided when he mated her and sent word to his clan.

  Thomas had two parents now. His brother would be smiling down from some realm of Shifter heaven, someplace in the after-life where he could smirk and gloat about Lucius finally letting his walls down.

  Lucius didn’t care. There were more important things than business now.

  Thomas took a step and then another and then one more until he fell forward into Cassandra’s grasp. She let out a whoop of victory as the entire living room erupted into laughter and celebration.

  Lucius went down to plant a quick kiss on the baby’s forehead. Thomas giggled in delight. Cassandra smiled at Lucius, who kissed her on the lips. There would be more playing for them later. Now, he was with his family. His mate, his son.

  This was home.

  Perfection.
