  “Eventually, I’d like to mate with you,” he said. “It’s a symbolic ceremony, but I want you to know my intentions.”

  “Your intentions?” she echoed, her head light and dizzy from his hot touch.

  “To love you and to have you for life.”

  Her heart rocketed upwards. She threw herself against him, pulling him onto her. They tumbled onto the bed together in a fit of passion. His kisses were hot, and hers were desperate and full of longing. It’d been a while since she’d felt another’s touch and Luke...well, Luke was something very special.

  “Please,” she begged him as she began to tug her panties off beneath him. He was happy to help, guiding the black lace thong off her legs. His kisses drifted downward and began to pleasure her entrance. She groaned, throwing herself back into the pillows. “I need you now.” Her complaints were met with more delicious attention from his mouth. She mewled and managed to run her hand over his member through some maneuvering. The reaction was instant. He was already far more than ready.

  He positioned himself over her. His needy eyes met her own as he silently asked for permission. She nodded. He thrust inside her, and she moaned out in pleasure as he filled her. It was everything that she needed. She rocked against him as they moved together in blissful harmony. It was hard to tell how much time passed as they moved together, full of passion and longing.

  She could feel herself getting close. She could feel his desperation approaching. Finally, she cried out as he struck her nerves perfectly, and she tightened around him. He let out a sound like a roar, an utterly delectable sound to her ears, as they reached their urgent climax.

  Collapsed onto the bed, he threw his arm around her in a protective manner. She snuggled up against his chest and sighed in relief. At this moment, all of her wanting was finally satisfied. She breathed in his scent, a subtle smell of trees and clay. He was perfect.

  “I’m happy we’re together,” she told him.

  He kissed her forehead and they drifted into sleep.

  Together.

  Luke

  Luke stared out from Doc’s porch. Well, Charlotte’s porch now. In a way, his porch too, since they were living their life together. Sometimes, he would feel a tingling in his spine, then, it would hit him—he had a whole family again.

  Charlotte popped her head out from the kitchen. “You want breakfast?” He turned around, his coffee in hand.

  * * *

  “Of course.”

  * * *

  She looked him up and down. He knew there was a dopey smile on his face. His gaze settled on the growing bump in Charlotte’s belly. She caught his eye and cupped the bump with a sly smile.

  * * *

  “Come inside,” she said. “Let’s eat as a family.” From behind her, Nat shouted gibberish from her highchair. Luke smiled and wrapped an arm around Charlotte as they walked back into the kitchen together.

  * * *

  A family.
