The Baby Shift- Wyoming Page 4
Not that their normal life outside the bedroom wasn’t great. Living in Casper with Andy, waking up next to him, eating breakfast with Nicky, spending cozy nights tucked into blankets on the couch watching Pixar films and eating Sunday sauce, was nearly as good. But this, this was what she had needed, without even realizing it. This worship, this coming together of mind, body, and soul.
As Andy’s pace quickened, Addie felt her lover’s climax building, her body moving to match him until he was falling apart in her arms, falling into her chest, her rounded belly separating them as they lay fitted together like a lock and key.
Addie eventually slid down to cuddle with Andy at her side, and his hand curled protectively over her belly. She felt the baby kick, Andy’s hand jumping slightly as their little one moved.
Andy leaned down and placed a soft kiss where the kick had been, laughing when another little footprint appeared for a moment under Addie’s skin.
“I hope he or she’s exactly like you,” he whispered, looking up at her.
“Wolf and all?” she asked hesitantly. She’d mostly come to terms with her wolf half over the last few months thanks to a combination of therapy and the loving acceptance of her partner, but she couldn’t help feeling worried about the baby. What if it was a shifter like her? Nicky wasn’t, but the genes sometimes skipped a kid. Life might be easier for shifters now, but it still broke Addie’s heart thinking about her kid having to deal with the same pain and suffering her wolf half had caused her sometimes. After all, it had nearly cost her Andy.
“Yes. Your wolf is the reason you’re so strong, courageous, and nurturing, Addie. How could I not want those traits to be passed onto my kid? Every little bit of you that I see in Nicky makes me smile. A kid with even more of that is only going to make me happier.”
Addie smiled at his words, relaxing into the pillows stuffed against the bed’s headboard. “Really?”
“Really. But whatever he or she turns out to be, a little of you, a little of me, all of one or the other or neither, I’m going to love it to bits. Because it’s ours. Another addition to our family. How could I not be happy about that?”
“I love you,” Addie told Andy, not surprised to find tears brimming in her eyes. She cried a lot these days, happy tears, sad tears, no-clear-reason-for-them-except-hormones tears. And each and every time, Andy leaned in and kissed each tear away, making her feel more loved than she’d ever thought or hoped possible. She was so happy to have him again, and she was never going to let him go.
“I love you, too, baby,” he whispered against her lips, kissing her deep and slow, his hand still resting on her pregnant, rounded belly.
