  His lips pulled back as he bared his teeth. She squirmed beneath him as his thrusts became more powerful, feeling the bed rock. His inner beast growled as his lips found hers again. He needed everything from her. As he quickened his pace again, she began seeing stars in her eyes as she ran her nails down his broad back.

  “More, please.”

  He was happy to give in to her demands. She threw her head back as he dove in one final time. Her muscles tightened around him as they trembled against one another.

  “Jacob!” she cried out as they reached climax together. It was a moment of pure bliss, of all her fears and insecurities draining away into a glorious moment of absolute pleasure. They rocked together as they rode the aftershock of their lovemaking. It was as if their souls had fused during their act of passion. She collapsed against him as he came to lay beside her. They stayed still together for some time, only listening to the sound of the other one’s breath in the glorious silent aftermath. His hand traveled up her back and rubbed it with a reassuring movement. She buried her face into his powerful chest, nuzzling against the surprisingly soft skin.

  “I’m happy,” she told him. He chuckled and ran his fingers through her wet hair. He smiled down at her with a dreamy look in his eyes. She offered a small smile in return. “What?”

  “I’m happy too,” he said. She closed her eyes and rested her forehead against him, enjoying the sound of his heartbeat.

  She would put herself back together. She would get better. He would get better. They would get better together.

  They fell asleep together in a perfect peaceful embrace.

  Epilogue

  Three months had somehow flown by. They were in the full swing of summer. The days had grown hot. The clan had welcomed his new mate with open arms, although there were lots of discussions about Shifter and human culture.

  He watched as Ashley led Phoenix around the territory, pointing out the flowers and herbs in the area, a common and favorite past-time for the pair. Ashley was splitting her time halfway between her station and Jacob’s own cabin in the fort. And Phoenix? Well, the baby was growing bigger every day. They’d soon have to up her size in clothes. Sometimes, Ashley took her on hikes during her work when the weather was fair enough.

  “She’ll be strong like you,” Ashley had said with a smile. He grinned.

  Their daughter would be strong like both of them. Somewhere, he knew his old mate was content with his newfound happiness. They would grow together as a family. They would protect one another. They would be happy. Someday, they would have their own children together to add to their clan.

  Another adventure awaited his family.

  He couldn’t wait to experience it.
